Our first-ever annual State Policy Report Cards show clearly that we have a crisis in American public education.
The StudentsFirst State Policy Report Card (SPRC) aims to offer a comprehensive analysis of education policies and how well they position teachers, administrators and schools to identify and meet our children's needs. The SPRC is meant to serve as a roadmap and resource for policymakers and community advocates who want to drive change in their state — it outlines a series of policies that research shows are among the most important levers for sustained change. If we elevate the teaching profession, empower parents with data and choice, and ensure resources are spent wisely, states can create more great schools and raise student achievement.
After more than a century of doing things in education the same way, it's time to challenge the status quo and make sure every policy impacting our schools is there to benefit all students. Sometimes, the interests of adults and kids in our school systems align. But when they don't, decisions made and policies enacted should be based first and foremost on what is best for kids.
Please contact your legislators and tell them that it's time to challenge the status quo and make sure every policy impacting our schools benefits our children. Ask them to read the SPRC and use it to ensure all children are given the kind of 21st century education they need.
