Ideas for Putting Student Interests First

Keep Great Teachers in the Classroom

Schools in California have been devastated by teacher layoffs. While teachers may be protected this year, budget pressures and outdated policies in California will result in layoffs of great teachers in the future. We must keep effective teachers in the classroom where they belong — teaching our kids.

Recognize Excellence in our Schools

We should evaluate teachers and principals in a fair and meaningful way so that we can reward excellence in the classroom and we can support teachers who need improvement. We owe this to our students.

Quality Public School Options

Every student deserves to attend a great school regardless of their zip code. We must expand the number of quality school options, including high performing public charter schools, so they can serve more students.

Empower Parents

Parents should be empowered with good information and the ability to take action so they can be involved in their children's education in a meaningful way.

Spend Wisely

We need to spend our limited resources on programs that positively impact student learning. We should be spend less money on bureaucracy and more money directly on classrooms and learning.
