When teacher layoffs are necessary, the best teachers should remain in the classroom. Layoffs should be based on performance, not on seniority. Reform Tenure Job security should not come before the interests of students. Only the most effective teachers should be rewarded tenure, and ineffective teachers should not be protected by tenure. Mutual Consent Teachers and principals deserve the right to decide on placement together. Placement decisions forced on both parties do not work to the benefit of students. |
Fair and Robust Evaluations
At least 50% of teachers’ and principals’ evaluations should be based on how much academic progress their students make. Reward Effective Teachers Teachers deserve professional-level salaries, and the more effective they are, the more they should be paid. Empower Parents with Real Choices Parents should have multiple options and quality information so they can choose the best school for their child. |
