Bradford Swann, Jr. named Georgia state director for StudentsFirst
Atlanta, Georgia – StudentsFirst and its more than 40,000 Georgia members announced today that Bradford Swann, Jr. has joined the national reform group as its new State Director.
"Bradford's wealth of experience in Government Affairs on the state and local level will help StudentsFirst continue to grow our movement and build on our momentum in Georgia," said StudentsFirst Vice President for Legislative Affairs Tim Melton. "His expertise and leadership will be a tremendous addition to our team, as we continue to advance policies that are in the best interest of kids."
Prior to joining StudentsFirst, Bradford was a member of General Electric's Government Affairs team, responsible for managing state and local relations for GE Capital and GE Energy. Bradford worked closely with GE businesses and state governments to facilitate collaboration and strengthen partnerships.
In addition to his work with GE, Bradford served as the Director of Federal Affairs for Governor Sonny Perdue in Washington, DC. Before working with the Governor, Bradford worked on Capitol Hill as a Legislative Assistant for U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson, focusing on tax, banking and agriculture policies. He also staffed the Senator on both the Small Business and Ethics Committees.
A graduate of the University of Georgia's Terry College of Business, Bradford was selected for the Bebe and Earl Leonard Leadership Scholars Program. He graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BA in Economics. While working in Washington, Bradford also earned an MBA from Georgetown University.
"Born and raised in Georgia, I am humbled by the opportunity to work with StudentsFirst members and policymakers across the state to ensure our children receive the education they deserve," Swann said. "Georgians want a public education system that is among the best in the nation. We can build that by advocating for student-centered reforms that create better outcomes for all students."
Bradford currently resides in Atlanta with his wife, Ashley, and their one-year-old son, William.
StudentsFirst is a bipartisan grassroots movement of more than 1 million members nationwide, working to focus our education system on what's best for students. Today, too many of America's children are not getting the quality education they need and deserve. StudentsFirst is helping to change that with common sense reforms that help make sure all students have great schools and great teachers. We are working to ensure educators are valued for the critical role they play in kids' lives, families have high-quality school choices and a real say in their child's education, and our tax dollars are spent wisely on what works for kids. Launched by former Washington D.C. Public Schools Chancellor Michelle Rhee in December 2010, StudentsFirst has successfully helped pass more than 70 student-centered policies in 17 states, and our movement continues to grow.
